In 70's of last century, the U.S. GATTYS company invented the machine torque DC servo motor, since then many countries’ CNC machine tools adopted large quantities of DC servo motor drive, and Open-loop system is gradually replaced by the closed-loop system. the control circuit of DC servo system which made of DC servo motor is relatively simple, and the price is also lower. Although induction motors are cheap, but early due to poor control performance, so induction motors not been applied in the numerical control system for a long time. But With the development of the modern motor control theory and power electronics technology, in 1971, Siemens invented the AC induction machine Blaschke vector control method; in 1980, a German named Leonhard made progress in the application of vector control. From the late 70s, CNC machine tool gradually adopts induction motor as Spindle drive motor.
